Description
*** This is the Drive/Camping Loom to add onto existing wiring ***
Don’t you get annoyed when you are parked up and enjoying a wee cuppa (or glass of something) when sitting outside or maybe in the back and want to listen to the radio BUT … you have to leave the keys in the ignition for the radio to work
So maybe you try and mess around with the wiring to bypass the ignition so you don’t need the key to have the radio on, BUT THEN you have to manually turn the radio on and off when jumping in to go out for a drive and then park to go for a wander?
Well, what you need is HOOVIES DRIVE/CAMPING RADIO LOOM
This Kit allows you to control whether your radio comes on with the ignition like VW supplied it, or bypasses the ignition so you can enjoy your sounds without having to leave the key in the lock, which keeps your van far more secure of course. The switch also allows you to have the radio off entirely (which could be very handy if needing to depart a campsite early doors or late at night and you usually like to pump up the volume (saves that sudden blast of music waking up your neighbours)
The kit comes with wiring 300mm in length, switch and instructions on how to connect up your head unit to the selector switch
An aftermarket head unit such as an Alpine or Pioneer for example (ones where the units loom come with bullet connectors for power and ignition lines) require no tools to install. An ‘Extended Length’ kit is available with 1000mm length wiring if you need to locate the switch further from the Radio (I use the extended length version in my own Ducato based Motorhome).
Original units can still be connected by splitting the power and ignition wires in the radio loom and fitting bullet connectors (extras supplied with kit to do this) to the lines to replicate an aftermarket wiring style. This allows you to easily put back the wiring exactly as original if moving HOOVIES DRIVE/CAMPING RADIO LOOM to another vehicle.
This Shop Listing will cover the main Wiring Kit, and also the various options for different vehicles, both VW specific and other brands.
Please note the various options listed will only be shipped with an order that includes either the Standard or Extended Length Drive/Camping Wiring Loom.
See the Product Specifications for a summary of the different options selectable. Note that printed instructions and wiring diagram are not included with the kit but are available for free download via the link code on the packing label with the kit.

Leisure Battery Extension Lead
If you intend to listen to the radio for extensive periods without the engine running, you really want to power it from the Leisure Battery. Our Drive/Camping Loom is ready to add a plug&play Extension Lead to the Battery. It comes with Prepared Leads both ends plus a Blade Fuse (and Spare) to fit into the Leisure Battery fuse block you are using
Quadlock-to-ISO Wiring Kit
If you are doing a new installation on a VW T5 with Quadlock wiring (T5 from around 2006 onwards (Please check your vehicle wiring before ordering this option), then you will likely need a Qudalock to ISO Lead. Together with this lead, you need to add in an Ariel Booster AND an Ignition controlled Fused Supply.
Our Quadlock-to-ISO Kit includes all the above.
ISO-to-ISO Wiring Kit
If wanting to add a Drive/Camping Loom to an early VW T5 with the standard ISO plugs and intend using the standard radio, then this ISO-to-ISO kit allows you to install the loom with no cutting of original vehicle wires and cables.
VW T5 Radio Removal Tool
The VW T5 standard radio requires a set of keys to remove the radio from the dashboard. Select this option if you need to remove the radio and don’t have the tools to do so (there will be a little slot in each corner if these are the right keys)
